Child Abuse And Neglect - Epic Proportions In The United States

Child abuse and neglect is a national problem which has increased to epidemic proportions in the United States.  More than 2.5 million reports of child abuse are made in the U.S. annually (times 3 because only one third are reported so 7-10 million are actually abused, 60 million children are 14 and under so as many as 12-17% could actuallly be molested each year).  Five children die per day due to child abuse.

Most runaways, adolescent prostitutes and teenage delinquents report having been victims of some form of child abuse, and it's reported that a majority of violent criminals suffered abuse either physical and/or sexual as children.

Abuse robs children of the opportunity to develop healthy, trusting relationships with adults, contributes to low self esteem, and impairs healthy psycho-social development.  Indeed, the effects of child abuse can last a lifetime.

What is Child Abuse?
Physical child abuse inovolves external injuries and is more easily detected than other forms of abuse.  The following signs may indicaate physical abuse:  unexplained injuries, especially located on parts of the body not usually affected by normal childhood activities (i.e. eyes, mouth, back, thighs, buttocks, genital areas, etc.)

Repeated injuries such as bruises, welts or burns, especially those where the shape of an object is visible (i.e. an  electric cord, hair brush, belt, buckle, board, cigarette, etc.)

Abrasions or lacerations appearing on the body for no apparent reason.  Injuries in various stages of healing which appear in a regular pattern or are grouped together.

Small circular burns which may have been inflicted by cigarette or cigar, often found on forearms, hands, buttocks, or soles of feet.

Burns with a "doughnut" shape on the buttocks which may indicate a child was forced to sit in scalding liquid.  Any burn which shows the pattern of the object (i.e. iron, fireplace tool,  heater, etc.)

Burns caused by friction, usually found on arms, neck, legs or torso, indicating a rope or cord may have been used to tie up the victim.

Unexplained fractures (i.e. nose, face ribs, legs, arms, etc.)

Behavior of the child may be hyperactive, disruptive, and aggressive, or complacent, shy, withdrawn or uncommunicative.

Denial by parents that anything is wrong, unlikely explanation for the child's injuries, delays in obtaining medical care or inadequate care given and injuries that occur with increasing frequency or severity.

Sexual Abuse And Its Impact On Children:
Incest, sexual molestation, rape, sodomy, child pornography, exhibitionism and exploitation are terms often used when describing child sexual abuse.  Sexual child abuse can be physical - inculding genital or oral stimulation, fondling and intercourse; non-physical - including indecent exposure, obscene phone calls or "peeping toms" and/or violent as in rape or other forms of sexually violent behaviior.
More severe incidents of sexual abuse, such as incest, rape, sodomy, exposure to pornographic action or other forms of sexual violence may have a lasting effect on the child.  Behavior problems may include withdrawal, difficulty at school, aggression, running away, nightmares and extreme anxiety and depression.  in some cases symptoms of child sexual abuse don't appear until adulthood.

Why Are Children Sexually Abused And Who Are Their Abusers?
Those who sexually victimize children often suffer from emotional or psychological dysfunction, usuallly as a result of their own previous sexual victimization.  They often have severe sexual problems and difficulty relating to adults.  Most are adults with whom the child is familiar, and they may repeatedly abuse the same child.  An adult who is a stranger to the child will often abuse that child only once but may continue to abuse other children.  Studies show 1/2 of all child molesters are under 31 and only about 10% are over 50.

How Strange Is The Lot Of Us Mortals - Satisfied With The Mysteries Of Lifes' Eternities

How strange is the lot of us mortals!  Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose he knows not, though he sometimes thinks he senses it.  But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people - first of all for those upon whose smiles and well-being our own happiness is wholly dependent, and then for the many, unknown to us, to whose destinies we are bound by the ties of sympathy.  A hundred times a day I remind myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving...

I have never looked upon ease and happiness as ends in themselves - this critical bias I call the ideal of a pigsty.  the ideals that hae lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully have been Kindness, Beauty and Truth.  Without the sense of knship with men of like mind, without the occupation with the objective world, the eternally unattainable in the field of art and scientific endeavors, life would have seemed empty to me.  The trite objects of human efforts - possessions, outward success, luxury - have always seemed to me contemptible.

My passionaate sense of social justice and social responsibility has always contrasted sharply with my pronounced lack of need for direct contact with other human beings and human communities.  I am truly a 'lone traveler' and have never belonged to my country, my friends or even immediate family, with my whole heart; in the face of all those ties, I have never lost a sense of distance and a need for solitude.

My political ideal is democracy.  Let every man be respected as an individual and no man idolized.  It is an irony of fate that I myself have been the recipient of excessive admiration and reverence from my fellow-beings, through no fault, no merit of my own.  The cause of this may well be the desires, unattainable for many, to understand the few ideas to which I have with feeble powers attained through ceasesless struggle.  I am quite aware that for any organization to meet it's goals, one man must do the thinking and directing and generally bear the responsibility.  But the led must not be coerced, they must be able to choose their leader.  In my opinion, an autocratic system of leadership soon degenerates; force attracts men of low morality...the really valuable thing in the pageant of life seems to me not the political state, but the creative, sentient individual, the personality, it alone creates the noble and the sublime, while the herd as such remain dull in though and dull in feeling.

The topic brings me to that worst outcrop of herd life, the military system, which I abhor...this plague-spot of civilization ought to be abolished with all possible speed.  Heroism on command, senseless violence, and all the loathesmoe nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism - how passionately I hate them.

The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious.  It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and science.  Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed.  It was the eperience of mystery - even mixed with fear - that engendered religion.  A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, our perceptions of the profoundist reason and the most radiant beauty, which only in their most primitive forms are accessible to our minds:  it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute true religiosity.  In this sense, only this sense, I am a deeply religious man - I am satisfied with the mystery of life's eternity and with a knowledge, as sense, of the marvelous structures of existence - as well as the humble attempt to understand even a tiny portion of the Reason that manifests itself in nature.

Elite Vindictive Dysfunctional Status Quo In Charge Of All Major Dysfunction

Normal means:  "regular, standard, natural;  of average intelligence;  sound mind and body."  We have 80 million men in the workforce and  70 million women in the workforce with a population of at least 310 million.  Sixty million kids are 14 and under, 40 million people are disabled, 40 million are seniors and 40 million are age 15-24.  Christians state they number 250 million (World Almanac) although the number of practicing Christians is up for grabs.

Norm means:  "an authoritative standard or model;  a set standard of development or achievement usually derived from the average or median achievement of a large group;  a typical or widespread practice, procedure or custom."

The EVDSQs set the "norm" for the "normal" but Americans aren't normal.  It is a grand hoax for a few people (backed up by the largest law firms in the world) to do whatever they want with people, money, incorporations in Delaware when California is going broke, the environment, the workplace and wages, housing and democracy:" government by the people;  especially rule of the majority;  a government in shich supreme power is held by the people;  a political unit that has a Democratic government;  the principles and policies of the Democratic party of the U.S.;  the common people especially when constituting the source of political authority;  the absence of hereditary or class distinction."

Pill and cosmetics research is in the billions of dollars and we spend $200 billion per year on personal care items.  The Pill Police (AMA,etc) are hell-bent on prescribing "something for anything."  From personal experience i have felt like I had a partial lobotomy from some medications over simple anxiety reported to a psychiatrist.  Physicians are always trying something pushed on them by the pharmaceutical industry whether or not it's in the best interest of the patient.  "Here's one let's try this for awhile!"

Many of of us don't have time to tackle lobbyists and be activists or even see a doctor when we need one.  What good is health insurance if the workplace doesn't allow you time to use it?  We actually need new laws even though we have too many laws, some antiquaated and absurd.  The EVDSQs don't like to see the workplace insurance costs go up due to people using them, i.e. Workers' Compensation, general health plans and even accidents in some cases.

I believe it's shameful that a two earner family cannot afford a house and even more shameful to see many in the middle class liquidate and join the ranks of the poor, who have no incentive to work because of housing subsidies, free medical and car insurance and food stamps.  A college graduate from a good school may get an immediate offer of $100,000 or more, but what about the working poor?  Wages have never been fair.  Some states like California have passed their own minimum wage.  Health care costs have gone up 80 times since 1960.  When I was growing up doctors made house calls and we paid a fair amount in cash for medical services.

Buying uinnecessary items is unpatriotic.  We spend $10 trillion per year on personal items.

I suspect the EVDSQs are against all my suggestions.  Hedonism:  "the doctrine that pleasure is the chief good in life; a way of life based on this."  Where is America's patriotic spirit?  In the Depression era Sears and Rockefeller built homes for their employees and the Sears chairman put his own money in the company in a crisis.  He also lowered mortgage rates for his employees.

The most unconscionable non-action by the EVDSQs is failing America's young people.  They know who they are and they are shameless crooks with no spine.  I despise their norms.  Americans are certainly not normal and we don't live in a democracy, mostly because of them.  Donald Trump is always bragging about "brand and image", I suggest the EVDSQs are COWARDLY HEDONISTS who are holding the majority of Americans hostage (in the workforce and in poverty) just as a child sexual molester holds a child hostage only a child has no legal authority to agree to the abuse.  The EVDSQs are willfully destroying our country and disobeying laws without punishment or recompense.

Having been beaten and molested as a child (and in the Boy Scouts), awarded the Eagle Scout honor, and honorably discharged as an in-service conscientious objector, I've always been an activist and invite you to ananda.org radio and my community service website - healingpleasuresmodule.com, focusing on Lifestyles, Wellness And  The World and From Anger/Violence To Pleasure, as well as child abuse advocacy.

I believe we have the worst politicians and the worst EVDSQs in the history of the country.  I welcome any response (usually doublespeak) and an elaborate display on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce website that they are doing everything right.
Sincerely

What The Elite Vindictive Status Quo In Charge Of All Major Dysfunction Will Never Understand!

You can be in a room twenty years, trying to get out through the walls, the ceiling, the floor.  It is when you finally discover the door that you find your way out.  That's how it is with the soul.  The average devotee may struggle his whole life trying to escape the bodily limitations by unscientific means and by the paths only of devotion or discriminatiion.  By kriya yoga, however, if he is sincere, he can escape quickly.  Kriya yoga takes one to God by the universal highway:  the spine.
